Glioblastoma and brain tumours in general are very complex and unpredictable, unfortunately. We want to help support and bring attention to all the Canadians who are affected by all types of brain tumours.
Glioblastoma is an aggressive type of cancer that can occur in both the brain and the spinal cord. Glioblastoma can form from cells called astrocytes that support the nerve cells.
No one type of person is affected differently by glioblastoma, as it can occur at any age and within either sex but does tend to occur more often in older adults.
Glioblastoma is the most aggressive form of brain cancer. Even with treatment, chemotherapy, and radiation, most people die within 14 to 16 months of being diagnosed. One of the reasons this cancer is so deadly is because it hijacks the immune system, suppressing it and reprogramming immune cells to work for the tumour.
